Jax Chills

We have had Fireworks this month and Jax doesnt like it, the daft bit a big bang he doesnt bother but some smaller ones he goes mad and try's to crawl home. The problem being that its not just 5th November but a week either side and he remembers if he heard a bang and doesnt want to go that way again. It takes a few weeks without any for a dog to get over it. Above he like chilling in the garden mostly lying on the plants.

Here he is with the duck one of his favourite toys which he like to kill over and over again.

Here he thinks he is king of the castle on top of stones in the park.

My seat get off it

As we go to the Queens Park Crewe most days Jax has taken up residence in his own seat and he sits there  proud as punch watching the ducks and squirrels. He is very good with all the wildlife and will just watch them most of the time. He sometimes has a little bounce at them if the run away. He has now worked out that at traffic lights he waits at the kerb but he has worked out now if it beeps then its time to cross clever little sod. His new trick is the local cafe/butchers he lay outside the open door the other day as he smelt food and the man came out  and gave him a sausage as he wouldnt move till he did. He now try this trick every time he sees the door is open.  

Whose a clever Boy then?

Jax is now 17 months old and has put on a bit of weight they are supposed to fatten out from now to 2 years. We gave him a chew the other day and he ran outside and dropped it in his water bowl cam in and had a rest then went out to get it. He has worked out for himself that putting it in water softens it. He worked out to bark to be let out and bark to come back in. If we dont let him in then hes worked out to come around to the living room window jump up at the window and bark if we dont here him at the back door.

He get crafty as well to get him in from the garden at night as he likes to sleep out side until bed time we give him a treat for coming in. He then trys to run out once hes eaten it so he can have another one for coming in the second time.

Jax Stupid positions

Jax get in the most stupid positions at times when its time for a walk he dives on the settee up side down

He then hangs off the end and often falls off in the excitement

Jumping on the back so he can look out of the window is another trick of his if you happen to be on the chair at the time he doesnt care

Its then playing hide and seek I see you as he trys to paw you

Jax eats a lot

Jax has had a mad half hour eating this week some weeks he may not eat very much then another he doesnt want to stop. The weather ha been a bit cooler this week which will account for it when its hot he doesnt want to eat. He is fattening out slowly no  he is 16 months and they do tend to change about now and then again at 2 years. He is generally a lot more laid back  now than he was he still howls when the Police or Ambulance goes past with the siren on

Jax lays on the grass

When he is out Jax loves laying on grass so we made a little lawn for him at home that was a few weeks ago and he has not been near it. Today he decided he likes it and lay on it for the first time. He is now 16 months old and has changed over the last few weeks getting much calmer he can still be an idiot puppy at times but generally he is much more chilled out. He walk well and doesnt pull on the lead as a rule and walks with a  loose lead even if he walks in front. He does if he get in front turn his ears back to listen to you. We are trying to get him out of the habit of lying down when he meets another dog as a pup it was ok as its shows submissive posterior but a few Staffies think it great to then attack him and it also frightens some dogs as he often jumps up very quick. So we are trying to make him sit quietly.  

Messing Around

Jax is now 16 months old and is mellowing out a lot but still has the puppy streak in him when he get excited. Its still been hot for him in the day and he just sleeps but he is ready for a game of wrestling or race the bike. He still hasnt lost all his fur and its still coming out of him everywhere 

Jax Battles the water monsters

With the weather being so hot this week Jax has been battling the water monsters he likes to wash his feet when its hot it helps to keep him cool

But the water monster AKA the hose pipe he has to have a go at he try's to attack it or drink it all at once you think  he would lie down in the water but he just like to get his feet and mouth wet. It has been a mess being so hot for a dog that has lots of fur and designed to live at –60 is far to hot for him all he wants to do is sleep. WE have to take him out a night when its cooler

It Hot Time to Chill

Its been very hot this week and its been to hot to take Jax out in the midday sun so we have to take him out further at night. In the day he just wants to chill how he can be comfortable lying like this I dont know. He is still loosing his coat its been a few weeks now and he still has a lot to go by the time he gets a summer coat it will be time for a winter one.

Jax Has a booster

Time and has soon gone and Jax was due his booster. We often pop in the vets to weight him so there is no problems going. He didnt even feel the needle as he was to busy eating a biscuit. He is still loosing his fur by the time he has lost it all it will be time for a new winter coat. He has decided he likes bacon now so some fried bacon and biscuits and he wolfs it down. He still loves pizza and bread and peanut butter.

Jax Gets a Harness

Jax has got a new harness. He walks very good most of the time but does pull when he sees another dog or get excited so we are trying a none pull harness and it seems to work 90% of the time its a bit fiddle to get on as you have to put it over his head and then put a foot in each loop. He is getting the hang of it and does put his foot in ok  most of the time he seems to like it ok as it only tightens around his chest when he pulls. He is still loosing lots of fur but starting to look a bit better but he seems thin as before all the fur hid it. He walks for 5 hours a day so he is all muscle there is no fat on him. There is always food available to him 24/7 so he isnt lacking in food

Jax has a paddle

With the hot weather we have got Jax a paddling pool to keep him cool on hot days. Who get the wettest the dog or us is another matter. He is loosing his winter coat still and looks really patchy with big bald patches were his new fur is shorter than the long winter coat. Brushing twice daily produces load of fur and he look like another dog. He has great fun in the water throwing water out of the pool then running in the house soaking wet

Jax Looses His Fur

The last week or so Jax has been loosing all his puppy fur and no matter how many times you brush him you get loads of fur out of him next time he is getting bald in some places. It should make it better for him in the heat(what Heat?) The heat does make him a bit more subdued but then at night when it get colder he want to go or longer walks.

Jax running

This week we have tried Jax running and towing my son on his skateboard to get him used to sledging and to tire him out a bit. Its a bit frightening as he pulls ok at high speed stopping is something else as we havent taught him that yet. He does tend to bound along more than a straight run you can see he has two feet off the ground all the time He is starting to loose his puppy fur and we are getting fur everywhere at the moment even brushing him doesnt help a lot.

Jax gets a new lead

We have got a new super duper lead for Jax which has lots of clips so it can be 5ft and adjusted down to other lengths it also will hold 190KG the clips are like padlocks and super quality. He is still howling every time a Ambulance goes past the problem being we live on the main route out of town for them so often he is howling when he is in the yard people around must think there is a wolf in the garden.

Happy Birthday Jax

Time has soon gone but Jax will be one year old this week. He is still very puppy like but he changes his behaviour weekly he pull when he sees another dog wanting to play but this week a quick no and he has stopped when you tell him so he does get better slowly. One day he takes no notice the next he works it out. Its been a bit hot for him this week so I dont know how he will go on in summer that one day a year we have it.

Jax Attacked

Jax was attacked by a GSD in the park last week he may be a puppy but in the end he showed the GSD who was boss he ended up un its back with his claws in his face chewing his neck. He is normally very friendly with other dogs and it was the first time he has defended him self and did he do a good job.

He will be 12 months old next week but he is still a baby at heart even has a dummy at times. He picks them up in the street if you dont watch him and sucks them just like a baby

Stupid Dog

Jax has a new habit when its time for a walk he dives on the settee and trys to stand on his head with his tail in  the air very often he then falls off. He is now nearly a year old time seems to have flown by since we got him as a little puppy. He is still a handful at times its like having a baby thats as big as a 15 year old. Things seem to suddenly click with him one day he wont do something then it suddenly kick in he still  lies down when he sees another dog which can be a pain sometimes but good other times.

Jax helps with carrying

Jax above caring a pipe to help or play catch me if you can. Its good for him he normally get hold of stick and things at the end instead of the middle then shakes them and hits himself

He loves being nosy standing on the wall to see whats going on and watching the cats sit in the sun. He doesnt chase cats just watches them but he was brought up with cats as a puppy

Jax 10 Months old

Jax is now 10 months old and about 90lbs. He has now taken to eating cooked liver and biscuits for dinner he seems to like that better than anything and he loves bones as well. When he comes in after his last walk at night he sits there barking for some complete dog food you have to throw for him. He was mad on bread but seems to have gone off that a bit now.He still has a hour walk  in the morning 2 hours at dinner time an our at 6 pm and last walk at 10 pm so he is all muscle with no fat on him.

Busy Week For Jax

Its been a busy week for jax as we have had workmen in fixing a new boiler for two days and jax has been helping them. The first day we had to walk him nearly all day as he was getting in the way. So by day two he was tiered out and wasnt so bad but still wanted to help them brush up and other tasks. He will be 10 months old at the end of this month the time has soon gone. We hope he will settle down a bit as he reaches 12 months. He is generally very good but can have a silly day now and then. We have got him some mince beef from the butchers this week and he seems to like that hot. He is a pain feeding and often wont eat out of his bowl but throw it out side and he eats it

More Snow

Its been a rough week with cold winds and snow but its just what Jax likes he thinks he is back in Alaska. He loves the snow and would sleep in it given half a chance. He is still eating a lot but doesnt like eating out of his bowl. He will not touch it but throw it outside and he eats it. He comes back at night after his last walk and barks for food. You have to throw it for him so he can chase it or catch it. He likes liver and bones he goes mad for say the word bone and he dances about like an idiot he has a blanket to eat it on and he will go an lie on it ready or take the bone to it. He is getting a pain at times pulling towards other dogs it just a faze he is going through hopefully but a over 80lb dog takes some holding back at times

Give Me food

Jax has had one on him all week he seems to be eating for England. He doesnt normally eat a great lot but all week he has been demanding food and more food. He has been a pain in the neck just going through one of those puppy stages when he wants fuss and food a lot.

He does like the settee and gets on it when every he can its ok if he is clean and dry but with the weather being wet again it can be a mess. Fortunately the settee is wipe able  

Jax’s First Snow

We had the first snow this week and of coarse jax loved it he was jumping trying to catch the flakes rolling in it, eating it, digging in it. He had been off his food for a few days and even refused bread. But he is back eating and making up for the lost meals. We weighed him at the vets and he hasnt put much on he is now 36 kg or 80lbs in old money. Not eating he may have lost a little bit. He was bouncy enough but just didnt want to eat he may have had a tummy bug.

New Bed

 

We got a new mattress this week for the bed and put the old one in the yard ready to go to the tip but Jax has decided its made for him and loves it as he can bounce on it as well as sleep.

He still loves jumping up on the bridge watching the ducks trying to get their bread. We have tried to cut down his bread as he was getting to much. He is being silly eating put food in his bowl and he wont touch it but hide it around the house or throw it to him he eats it

Jax Mucky Pup

One thing about Jax who is now 8 months old is if he sees muck, dirt or water he will go in it given half a chance. After having a bath to get rid of the mud on him I took him out and suddenly he saw mud that was it off like a lunatic straight into the mud a quick run in the mud then lets lay down in the mud just for fun.

He still appears to be getting more teeth as there are some very small ones coming through. He has been off his food a bit lately but its hard to tell. Most people would think they eat a lot but they eat very little for the size of the dog and everything they do eat is used up so very small pooh. At –40 were they live their bodies have to make every once of food count
